If You Want to Change the World, Start by Making Your Bed

My dad sent me this speech given at The University of Texas commencement by a Navy Seal.

The whole speech was awesome, but my favorite line from it was, "If you want to change the world, start by making your bed."  I thought, even right now- If I have to be on bed rest, I'd rather be ON my bed than IN my bed... how much more depressing would it be to stay IN bed all day, rather than sit or lay ON my bed, right?

A couple fun moments from yesterday:

The boys got a little sunburned last week, so I re-introduced them to aloe vera.  I told them what it was called, how it came from a plant, and told them about how I used to have an aloe vera plant and how you can cut the leaves to use what's inside of them!  Parker really liked the stuff.  He just couldn't remember what it was called.  I told him over and over that day, "a-loe-ver-a."  Yesterday, for some reason he started thinking about it again.  He came to me and said, "Mom, you know that saliva stuff?  I mean... that stuff that heals sunburns... what's it called?  Isn't it called saliva???"  Heehee!  I probably should have told him yes and let him run with it!

Yesterday- the 4th of July- was a blast!  I wanted Beckham to stay awake for the fireworks at night, to see how he would react this year.  I did go out and sit in a camping chair, and although Bex liked the fireworks, he didn't want to get off my lap.  He also couldn't seem to differentiate between "fireWORKS" and "fireTRUCKS."  He kept saying, "firetrucks outside!!  Firetrucks say 'pcshhhhh!'" and showing us fireworks with his hands (like "Sunbeam" hands).  Here is how he sat for most of the show:
He was peeking out from under his hand, but I couldn't get him to put his arm down.

Maybe he'll warm up and try his own sparkler on the 24th.  :)
